How to make a Rooibos Latte
Rooibos (pronounced ROY-boss) is a South African herbal tea that is made from the leaves of the Aspalathus linearis plant. It is also commonly known as red bush tea due to its reddish-brown color when brewed. Rooibos tea is naturally caffeine-free and has a slightly sweet, nutty flavor with a hint of vanilla. It is packed with antioxidants and other healthful properties.
At TWT, we have four different rooibos teas: Rooibos, Rooibos Chai, Caramel Rooibos, and Honella.
To make a rooibos latte, you will need the following ingredients:
- 1-2 rooibos tea bags (depending on how strong you like your tea)
- 1 cup of milk (dairy or non-dairy)
- 1 teaspoon of honey or sugar (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract (optional)
Here are the steps to make a rooibos latte:
-
Heat the milk: Pour the milk into a small saucepan and heat it over medium heat until it begins to steam. Do not let the milk boil. You can also froth the milk separately to make it thick and creamy if you have a frother.
-
Brew the rooibos tea: Place the tea sachets into a mug and add 200-212° water. Let the tea steep for 5 minutes. Remove the tea sachets and discard.
-
Add the steamed milk on top of the brewed rooibos tea: Pour the hot milk into the mug with the brewed tea.
-
Sweeten and flavor (optional): Add honey or sugar to taste, and a splash of vanilla extract, if desired.
-
Serve and enjoy: Enjoy your delicious and comforting rooibos latte!
